In her new exhibit, “Color and Comfort in Hang Time”, Ellen’s large-format abstract oils are emotive and resonant.  She says,

“As an abstract artist, I paint what I feel instead of what I see.  However, it is still the art components of color, shape, and line that help me convey what I’m feeling.  A serene vibe can rely mostly on colors that bring calm and soften the viewers eyes.  The cool blues, purples, lavenders, pinks, greens, and neutral yellows are good examples.  Soft shapes without abrupt boundaries, and lines that are sinewy and open, provide an unreliable structure that keeps the eye floating over a painting.

It is my desire for the paintings in this show to promote a relaxed and tranquil feeling.  I relate it here to the extended hang time of a vineyard harvest. For the grapes, that little extra time on the vine in the sun to just get sweeter.  For people, it is the comfort of friends and family in a favorite place with no rush to be anywhere but together.  We all need something that makes us slow down, feel at peace, and just hang.”
